Why should you hire me?

Trial Experience

I served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Fayette County, West Virginia for several years.  In that time, I won many major felony jury trials.  Many attorneys today who work at large law firms may have years of experience and never try a case in front of a jury.  The ability to try cases in front of juries is becoming a lost art of the legal profession.

I realized early on in my legal career, after working in employment and personal injury law, that I needed trial experience to be a confident attorney.  And becoming a prosecutor was one of the few routes available to get that critical trial experience.

The only reason an insurance company will pay you what you deserve is that it might have to pay out many times that amount if the case goes to trial.  Insurance lawyers know when they are dealing with an attorney who is “wet behind the ears.”  And they also know when they're dealing with an attorney who isn't afraid to take your case to trial.  Hiring an attorney who isn't afraid to take your case to trial can mean the difference between getting a settlement you deserve and having to take any paltry sum the insurance company offers.

Technological Competence

I use technology to enhance every aspect of my legal practice.  In the courtroom, I create visual aids and present them digitally to “teach” the jury about the important issues in the case.  Sometimes lawyers who live with a case for months or even years before it goes to trial get tunnel vision and forget that the jury is viewing the evidence for the first time.  By using courtroom technology, I am able to effectively present the evidence to the jury on behalf of my clients in a way that jurors will understand.

Although you would think it obvious in our internet age that all lawyers should use technology to make their case, the legal profession is notorious for being behind the times when it comes to technology.  This gives me a distinct advantage in the courtroom.

Outside of the courtroom, I use technology for case management.  In the legal profession, being on top of deadlines can mean the difference between winning and having your case thrown out of court.  You need a lawyer who is efficient, effective, and organized.

I also maintain a “paperless” office.  All case files are scanned to digital form and securely kept on local hard drives.  This enhances my ability to serve clients anywhere and anytime necessary.

Also, in the courtroom, this gives me the ability to summon critical documents at will.  Again, this ability can make the difference between winning and losing in the courtroom.  The lawyer with the ability to instantly answer the judge's questions will usually have a clear tactical advantage over the lawyer who takes minutes sorting through papers at counsel table while the judge grows more and more impatient.

Personal Attention

If you hire me, you can rest assured that yours will not be “just another case.”  I understand that you have real problems and that you need not only an attorney who can advocate for you in court but one who can also provide practical advice regarding your legal problems.  You should be wary of any lawyer who always tells you what you want to hear. You may be temporarily relieved by such assurances, but you also might be in for a nasty surprise at the end of your case. Instead, you should hire an attorney who will tell you the truth.  I am that attorney.
